Productivity builds and develops your brand. Many people end up getting frustrated after realizing they picked a job, they are not passionate about. That is why career advice is critical in helping you get productive, whether you are working in the office or at home.

Find yourself and know yourself.

Knowing yourself trumps hard skills. If you want to be ahead of everyone else in the workplace, you need an extraordinary power known as 'self-awareness'. It is what makes you smart emotionally. Self-awareness means having a deeper understanding of your skills, values, interests, feelings, limitations, and motives. People with self-awareness, know which button to push and which one to release in order to get what and where they want. If you unlock self -awareness, you crack all your personal potential in your career, and you are in a better place to make exceptional career choices.

What are your skills and competencies? Sharpen them!

Learning your skills and talents plays a pivotal role in the direction of your career. If you do not know what your skills are, you may end up finding a new career that will only worsen your frustrations. Instead of feeling sorry for yourself, start asking yourself a few questions like:

  • What motivates me?
  • Which tasks bring out the best in me?
  • Which activities make me feel good about myself
  • What task have I done before that everyone liked?
  • What is life about only useless working?
  • Is it me, did I choose the current path in my career
  • Where should I go now? Do I need to apply for a new job? New work life?
  • Is there something wrong with me? Should I advise a career coach?

If you can answer all these questions with a single answer for each, then you already know what your talent or skill is. Easy, right? If you didn't, you still have a chance of examining your past school projects, hobbies, interpersonal skills & and experiences. How did they go? Did you have favorites? You can begin with some reflection or speak to a counselor to help you pinpoint the strengths that helped you accomplish them.

Work with a mentor or career coach, will it decrease my unproductive work-style?

If you can't find your most exceptional abilities on your own, then it is probably time to seek help. A career coach, mentor, or counselor can help you with valuable career advice and also help you figure out what you are passionate about. They have the skills and experience to identify your strengths, source of motivation, skills, talents, and also help you work through your areas of self-awareness. Mentoring allows you to share and bounce your thoughts off a professional or someone who is in a similar career as you.

As we stay home, try and reflect on your workdays, which ones went well, and which ones went sour and what are the possible reasons for these outcomes. Is there something that you could have done differently? Then apply what you have learned when you resume work. If you work from home, start right now!
